Horns were honking almost continuously, as drivers passing by declared their opposition to the tax, a $6,000.00 per year penalty for owning a vacation home in South Lake Tahoe.

It was a great day to be out in the warm sun. A few of those who oppose the Vacancy Tax initiative came out to share their views on the matter.

Proponents seek to impose the unscrupulous tax on property owners who are prohibited by law from voting on the tax measure to be imposed on their own homes. Those who care about democracy should oppose this Draconian maneuver to force families out of their homes and mandating a $6,000.00 per year tax on those who wish to keep them.

South Lake Tahoe is a close tight knit community that cares about their neighbors. We all have friends and neighbors from the valley who own cabins here and many locals depend on maintaining the vacation homes for their lively hood. Most of the vacation homes are just small cabins, not the elaborate mansions the proponents of the tax portray them as (SnowBrains).

The City has paid lobbyists, the state has paid lobbyists, Businesses have paid lobbyist, the casinos have paid lobbyists, even the tourist industry has paid lobbyists, the only group that does not have a lobbyist is the taxpayers who have to pay for it all.

We are here to change that. Governments simply spend whatever they want and then raise taxes so you can pay for it. We hope to provide the taxpayer with a voice.

Taxes are inevitable, but there needs to be oversite on how our money is spent.
